Brazil has enacted the Agreement on the Mutual Protection of Geographical Indications Originating in the Territories of the Mercosur Member States, by means of Decree No. 13,009/2026.
The measure represents a significant step forward in strengthening the protection of Geographical Indications in the region, enhancing legal certainty, promoting products and services linked to their origin, and fostering integration among the bloc’s member countries.
This development underscores the growing importance of Geographical Indications as a strategic tool for intellectual property, regional development and market differentiation.
